I WON! Graphic Designer of the Year 2022 - Digital Women Awards
On Friday 14th October 2022, Lucy Hall announced - Angela Lyons as the Winner of Graphic Designer of the Year at the 2022 Digital Women Awards.
It was great to see so many Digital Women out to celebrate.
The annual Digital Women Awards celebrates women working in and around digital and digital-based businesses who are doing the most incredible work in their respective industries. They welcome and celebrate women from the Digital Women community and beyond! The awards are open to any woman working in and around digital and entrepreneurship who has gone over and above in their field. Entrants go through a rigorous judging process by their esteemed panel.
The 2022 awards were held at the gorgeous Ivy at Tower Bridge, in a beautiful room overlooking the River Thames! The day kicked off with Peach Bellinis and canapés, with plenty of networking and catching up, all alongside a fabulously empowering music soundtrack. Then they went straight into the awards!
It was a truly inspiring event and meeting the women I had connected with online, I was now meeting them in person. As each finalist's name was announced by Lucy – we cheered and celebrated with each other.
I was a finalist for 2 awards- Freelancer of the Year and Digital Graphic Designer of the Year. The category of Digital Freelancer of the Year Award recognises and celebrates women who are working independently and flexibly, often carrying out more than one specialism. Many freelancers also seek out their own clients and fund self-learning. Freelancers are often highly skilled and work alongside corporate teams and smaller businesses. Freelancers collectively contribute significantly to our economy.
When the Freelancer of the Year came up – I knew this had a lot of entrants and I honestly did not think that my name would be called. From twenty-six women - I was named Freelancer of the Year - Runner up. I felt so honoured.
Soon after the category for Digital Graphic Designer of the Year came up. My name was again among incredibly talented designers. When Lucy announced 'Angela Lyons' – my legs did go a little jelly as I walked up to collect the award. It seems cliched to say but I was not expecting it and I was feeling so happy just to be at the event and to be named as a finalist.
The judges said: Angela has a vast graphic design experience (over 15 years) which led her to be a self-employed freelancer, celebrating her 10th year recently. Her skills and experience are demonstrated in both her approach and the delivery of her work. She understands and interprets the briefs to present unique and thoughtful graphics that compliment brands and strike at the heart of the organisation's ethos.
This is a special moment for me as I celebrate ten years in business this year. When I started freelancing – like most people going it alone you have your doubts and fears. But after ten years of setting up Lyons Creative and now winning this award, it has proved it was the best decision I made.
To end on a note from Lucy Hall, the Community Lead and Founder of Digital Women:
“We are really excited to celebrate once again all of the incredible women going over and above and doing truly amazing things in the digital space. This is a significant time to celebrate businesswomen, entrepreneurs and all people in digital industries, I’m so glad we get to recognise all of these fantastic achievements from our community and beyond at the Digital Women Awards 2022.”
Thank you to the judges, Lucy and her team who worked hard to bring this event together for a community of women that empower and celebrate each other.
